We took advantage of another beautiful spring weekend and set off for another western Virginia winery. This time we visited Blue Valley Vineyard and Winery which is located near the village of Delapane in Fauquier County. We continue to be pleased with the variety that is offered by these wineries. I would have imagined that the visits would all be very similar, but they aren’t.
Blue Valley is located in horse country and is a working vineyard as well as a winery. It’s hillier than any of the other vineyards we have visited and I was wondering how the children would fair with the more restricted guest area. The good news is they enjoyed it.
Upon entering, we checked in inside the large building. We needed to make a reservation that required a $30 gift card for each adult in the party (the gift card can be used that day or on another visit). This has been a common approach taken by Virginia wineries during the pandemic and it worked well.
Blue Valley is located in a stunning setting. The foothills begin to feel more significant as you reach this part of the state. On the day we visited the sky was big and blue and everything was green as far as we could see. Even though social distancing, masks and all the other now common safety measures were in place here, they was barely noticeable.
I also was extremely impressed with the staff. Both times that I ordered here, I was given extremely thoughtful, detailed guidance on the the wine. Not only was the information very helpful, but at no point did I feel like I was even the least bit of an inconvenience. This small, but important piece of the visit made this winery stand out from the others we have visited.
The wine recommendations were perfect and the wine was very good. We also enjoyed our seats outside (self-selected) and the view. This winery is child friendly (of course) as well as pet friendly. A true gem. I can’t wait to visit again and heartily recommend it without any reservations.
