50 West Winery and Vineyard is located on Route 50 just outside the western limits of the village of Aldie, Virginia. One of my favorite spots, this was the first winery that we joined. Nestled on a series of hilltops known as the Aldie Heights patrons are surrounded by a wonderful view that only improves in the autumn as the leaves changes.
Though not very far from the urban and suburban bustle of the Washington, D.C. metro area, 50 West feels a world away. As you settle in to your seat, almost anywhere you choose you are met with a scenic view of the Bull Run Mountains.
Though the views are peaceful and amazing, one important feature is that the wines are very good. I am continually impressed by how good the wines are, my favorites are the Aldie Heights Cuvee and Ashby Gap. Additionally, there is not one ounce of pretention. This is a family friendly business with lots of outdoor space and seating choices, including covered and uncovered options.
As the weather has warmed and COVID 19 is continuing to fade in this area, 50 West has maintained a laid back, friendly atmosphere. The staff are also very attentive, knowledgeable, and approachable. It’s always nice to find a place where the entire family is happy to sit and relax.
