Today we began our epic 722 mile voyage to Maine.  We broke the drive into two days, with the first stop in Worcester, Massachusetts (421 miles away).  We left our home in Virginia about 8:45 AM this morning (Friday) in high spirits and excited to reach our destination.

The first leg of our trip went pretty smoothly and we reached the Delaware Visitor Center at 11 AM.  Since the children were ready, we stopped for an early lunch.  We ended up eating at Burger King and Pret-a-Manger, and picked up some candy in the store for the children.  We pulled out of the Visitor Center about 11:45 and continued to cruise up Interstate 95.

The trip went very smoothly all the way through New Jersey.  However, things were about to get ugly.  Getting through New York and Connecticut combined took almost six hours (we made a one hour dinner stop)!  We ended up stopping in New Haven at 6 PM to  eat dinner.  Sarah loves diners so we chose the Amity Diner for our stop.  All of the staff were super nice, but the food wasn’t very good and the prices were pretty expensive.  Still, the break (we were there an hour) was very welcome!

From New Haven to our hotel took 1:30.  We arrived at the Hampton Inn in Worcester, Massachusetts about 8:15.  An 11:30 journey (including two food stops) in total.  Fortunately, the Hampton Inn is great!  A nice, clean lobby greeted us and our room was wonderful.  It was just what we needed after our long, seven state trip.  I’m glad that we booked this hotel for our return trip as well!
