Caddy’s On The Beach, Treasure Island

Caddy’s on The Beach is located on Treasure Island outside of St. Petersburg, Florida.  When the TripsWithKevin family visited Caddy’s On The Beach a few years ago we enjoyed our lunch, but the thought of renting one of their cabañas for the the day piqued my curiosity.

A special winter addition!

We found a perfect day for it this December.  We visited on December 26th and were treated to a warm, sunny day and we rented a single cabaña for the day (9 AM to 5 PM).  There is a deposit at the time of booking that is credited toward the minimum purchase amount, but as long as your group plans on eating at least one meal and ordering some beverages, this shouldn’t be hard to meet.

One unpopular aspect of Caddy’s is the parking.  They have a great parking lot, but do charge in order to discourage non-costumers from parking here.  Since we were here for the day I happily paid the $20 for the entire day.  You do need to know your license plate number when you go to the pay station, so make sure to check before you leave your car.

We reached the parking lot at 9:45 AM, grabbed our bags of towels, books, and sunscreen and make our way to our cabaña.  We were greeted by the smiling Lauren who would be serving us during our visit.  She explained everything to us, and helped us settle in.  Our area came with 10 chairs, a nice shaded shelter with table, and a large cooler of ice which includes bottles of water (no additional charge).  Since the restaurant/bar opens at 8 AM, Lauren took our (second) breakfast order and I even was able to take advantage of the bottomless mimosa offer (this is good until 11 AM).  Lauren was very attentive and in between preparing the other cabañas made sure our glasses were refilled and everyone was satisfied with their food and drinks.  The breakfast foods were good, and everyone was happy.

At that time of day the beach was empty and we enjoyed ourselves as the place slowly filled.  Most of the other cabaña renters arrived between 11 and 12, but even then the beach never felt crowded.  As the restaurant filled for lunch and the other cabañas filled the service was not as fast, but was acceptable and never too long.

Having the dedicated space with our own seating, plus the servers made this a wonderful experience.  As far as the beach goes…  the sand is soft and white and the water was clear and pleasant (though in December it isn’t warm).  Our party of nine ranged from nine years old to adults and everyone left impressed.  Many of us ended up spending most of the day in the water.

If you added up what we spent on our last visit to the public beach, including the money we spent on drinks and snacks for the beach, plus our lunch at Caddy’s the overall expense wasn’t much different.  We also made no attempt to limit our spending on this visit as we haven’t traveled much recently.

All in all, this is something TripsWithKevin would recommend to anyone looking for a fun and unique experience in the Tampa Bay area.  From our airbnb in downtown Tampa the drive took 45 minutes and is easy driving that is almost entirely on the Interstate.  I look forward to the next time we have the opportunity to visit.
