This morning when we woke it was pouring and the whole glen was covered in clouds and mist.  We let the morning be lazy before getting out of the house.  It stopped raining about 10 AM, but the sky never did clear.  The wind on the mountain where our house is was impressively strong all day.

We had promised Liam a return visit to the shop in the Folk Village yesterday so that was our primary goal for the morning.  First, we parked the car at Oideas Gael because I wanted to take a look at their shop.  We didn’t end up buying anything this time but the girl working in the shop was very friendly and spoke Irish to Fionnuala (4) and exchanged goodbyes in Irish with Liam (7).

We then made the short walk to the Folk Village.  We thought that we might eat lunch here today also, but changed our minds after we got there with the children.  The children did however each select something from the gift shop:  Liam chose a harmonica and Fionnuala picked a small stuffed duck.  The lady in the shop waited on us as Gaeilge which was nice, but even nicer because she spoke first.

We decided to try An Charraig for lunch, but weren’t impressed with the options so we headed to Killybegs.  We ended up at Melly’s, the Killybegs fish and chips institution.  They have developed quite the following with people from all over the island, some claiming that they drive to Donegal just to eat here.  Sarah and I both had Fish and Chips (€11 each), Liam had the Children’s Chicken Nuggets and Chips and Fionnuala had the Children’s Cheeseburger with Chips.  I had a sparkling water to drink and Sarah had a Diet Coke.  The bill came to €35 and they only take cash, but there is an ATM very close to the restaurant if you need cash.

After Melly’s we headed to the Supervalu for our last set of groceries and some diesel.  Once we had taken care of our errands we headed back to the house.  After a little while the rain returned but we had a nice relaxing final day of our stay and I’m glad we decided to stay in.  From about 4 to 7 PM there was an intense rain storm, then about 7:45 the sky cleared and it was a beautiful evening.
